Running Accomplishments:

I have lost 90 pounds. This more than any thing else is my greatest accomplishment. After my collegiate running career I sadly stopped running and kept eating all the way to 265 pounds. After a lot of soul-searching and even more running I am now 175, the same weight I was in college.

Short-Term Running Goals:

Keep running. I simply run for greater health. I enjoy the struggle for self improvement.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I would like to amass enough race t-shirts to make blankets for every bed in the house, as well as finally run a marathon. (Oct 15th SoJo Marathon)

Today I did the first 15 miles of the SoJo Marathon course. I'm glad I got out there to take a look at the course. Now I know a bit more what to expect on race day. I plan to do 22 mile run on the last part of the course next week.

I stopped to pick up my first water at mile 6 and noticed that some dang critter beat me to it! The top of the water bottle had teeth marks and wholes in it. I was not about to risk getting sick though, so I dumped it. My next, and only remaining, water was at mile 11. Then I started to notice how warm and windy it was. I know some of you are tough enough to run 20 miles with out a water stop, but I'm a wuss for hydration. Even with one water stop I could see myself running 6:30 avg on that course. It would not be easy, but a marathon is not supposed to be easy.

Don't you mean a "gal darn'd critter"?

I would come run with you next week but I've been told I have soccer games starting at 8:00am all day Saturday.

As Yosemite Sam would say, "WHAT IN SAM HILLS IS GOING ON HERE? I'VE GOT GAL DARN'D CRITTERS DRINKING MY WATER"!!

Honestly Kurt, a 6:30 seems rather conservative for you. I would think you could do a 2:45 or better with your training if you get to the start line fresh and tapered, along with the aid station support...yeah, a 2:50 is too conservative for you. Just my opinion :)

Oh, and you know you can take a little extra jog over a couple blocks for water anytime you need it out here!! If we're not home, the hose is on :)

I hope you are right RAD. Personally I think that getting a 2:50 is going to take a seriously good race. However if I get to the 18 mile mark and still feel like I am under racing I would love to drop the hammer and close it off faster. One way or another I am going to leave it all out there on the race course. That is the real goal, to race as well as I possibly can. What ever time that produces I will be happy with.
